generally now a days power factor is maintained by APFC ( auto power factor control) panel. Here there is a provision for setting the PF say 0.99. Capacitors from the capacitor banks are automatically switched off & on as per the load to maintain the set power factor. As motors are always run through motor control panel. As for the individual motor, we have to maintain the load for a suitable PF. Also C = kVAR / (2 π f V2) in microfarad
