What will happen if apply dc source for power transformer

Answer / natha
if dc is applied, the nature is non sinusoidal so no flux linkage.this leaves us with simple v= i*r type situation(referring to basic equations).in transformers the winding resistance is low.if 220v dc is applied and resistance of winding is 0.5 then current i=220/.5 which is high value shorting the winding and eventually burning it out.
but why the hell apply dc to transformers in first place

Tr is an ac machine. If dc is applied ,the current will be
equal to voltage divided by dc resistance as inductance and
back emf are absent. There will not any output in the secondary.
