why the 4 terminal are named as main, line, common, voltage (M, L, C, v) of a wattmeter?? why not its nameed as A,B,C,D??

We are dealer in Maharashtra State & We have recd. form C from dealer of Maharashtra State against our E-1 form. Now assessing authority is asking for counterfoil of our E-1 form. But, our E-1 form counterfoil is misplaced somewhere & assessing authority is disallowing the C form which is recd. from Maharashtra State.Please let us know the option for allowing C form?
