synchronous generator?

Answer / nithi
* synchronous generator generates the power only at
synchronous speed whereas induction generator generates the
power only at ASYNCHRONOUS SPEED.
* induction generator needs AC supply for it's
excitation, but synchronous generator requires DC supply for
excitation purpose.

Syncronous generator runs at syncronous speed of the
system, where as induction generator runs at a speed which
is different from syncronous speed.
As an example if we remome DC excitation from a syncronous
generator and the generator remains connected to the system
AC voltage& the prime mover(turbine etc)Continues running,
the rotor will get excitation induced from the generator
Stator and the generator will continue running as induction
genrator.

an induction generator is one which needs a continuous
supply from the mains , that is it is not self starting it
needs to be first started as an induction motor and then
the primemover torque be applied in opposite to the
electromagnetic toreque so that the rotor startss moving at
a sped greater than the synchronous speed , while a
synchronous generatore is self starting and requires only
prime mover torque which rotates it in the direction
opposite to electromagneticc torque and it rotates with the
synchronous speed

We have 11kV/110V three phase indoor potential transformer in 66/11kV Sub-station, where the failure of PT is frequently happening and the rating of the PT is 0.2 class accuracy, with primary star and seconday (two cores) star connected. Some experts has suggested to not to connect the PT Primary neutral to the ground because when transformer neutal NCT connection is loose; the faulty current will flow through the PT primary neutral, resulting into failure of PT. My question is: Is it necessary to remove the primary neutral connection of the PT from ground? if not, what would be the reason for failure of PT. Please guide me.
