1.what is the basic difference between surge arrestor and lightning arrestor and where we use it. ..

Answer / v.sugumar- kurinjipadi-cuddalo

surge arrestor installed in indoor application like SWG
panel, HT motor termination box and etc..Lighning arrestor
installed in out door, example: top of building, and it is
connected to earth, incase of lighting air terminal will be
atracted by lightning and it is grounded.

Surge arrester installed in the power line, incase of hi-
sugre in the line, surge arrester (MOV) metal oxide
verister will conduct to the ground, and it will return
back to normal state. MOV during normal state the
resistance is high, when the surge incresed above the
certain limt it wil reduce the resistance.

1.what is the basic difference between surge arrestor and lightning arrestor and where we use it. ..

Answer / eee

surge arrestor: these are capacitive/ solid state devices
which prevents sudden rise in voltage (max 2Vrated)
lightning arrestors: these are nonlinear elements, provides
high impedance in normal working, very low impedance at very
high voltage (lightning)....
withgap metal oxide will have higher voltage carrying
capacity. then the without gap MO.....
