Aashish kamal: there is nothing related with corona effect, potential gradient simply is what mr. sunil das said that it is potential drop per unit length or potential difference per unit length. potential gradient is also known as CABLE RATING of XLPE /PVC cables. This potential drop or difference is depends many other factors like transmission voltage through the cable, cross section area of cables, temperature and also on the no. of runs of the cable to transmit the supply voltage etc etc.. This potential gradient is likely to be approx 2 or 2.5 but in the case of cables having smaller cross section area it is reached upto 4 or 4.8 but for the cables having larger cross section area we ignored this factor as it is approx 0.
