power x'mer
used for above 200kva...efficiency is high because it have
low copper loss ...it have high flux density...it having low
current density..they are put in operation during the load
period and disconnecting during light load period....
distribution transformer
used for below 200kva...its efficiency is high at near or
below 50% load...
it having low flux density...
it having high current density..

Answer / g p gupta
The max efficiency of power transformer is nearby F.L. but
in case of distribution transformer max efficiency is
nearby 50% of F.L. Core loss is taken in consideraton
during design of distribution transformer. for power
transformer Cu loss.

THE OPERATION OF DISTRIBUTION AND THE POWER TRANSFORMER ARE NOT VARIED TO WIDE EXTENT BOTH OF THEM ARE OPERATING SAME PRINCIPLE BUT THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THAT APLLICATION CONCERNED
WHEN USED IN POWER STATION CALLED AS POWER TRANSFORMER AND USED AT DISTRIBUTION AREAS DISTRIBUTION TRANSFORMER

in an distribution transformer the variation exist
between the voltage & current is not much but
incase of power transformer the range may be large

Answer / siddharth srivastava
a power transformer is connected to the supply only when the
load is heavy,ie when load is low it is disconnected from
the supply,on the other hand a distribution transformer is
connected to the supply all the time.
