How to calculate the size of the cable? for exp i want to
use the load of 10HP
Answers were Sorted based on User's Feedback
Hai
its is very simple
load=10 HP
10 X 0.746= 7.46 KW
7.46 X 1000/ ROOT 3 X 0.8X 415= 12.97 A= 13 A
So our require cable shouls be withstand 13 A AT full load
condition .
u will reff any one cable manufacture catalouge which
cable suitable for the same load . but that cable to be
suitable for Appx -18A because u will consider the
derating factor for cable .

Sqmm of cable depends upon the cable material.In thumb rule Cu cable can carry 10-12 times of its rated sqmm.For ex 10 sqmm cu cable carry 100-120 amps.Al cable carry 4 times current of its rated sqmm
For ur problem: 13A is rated current. 50-60 amp staring current,7-8 running cu.So u may need 4 sqmm Al cable or 2.5 sqmm cu cable.
