There are two trees in a lawn. One grows at a rate 3/5 of the other in 4 years. If the total growt..

Answer / k[a][s]h

the right ans. is 1.5 ft as given by ankita
here's how-

assume growth rate of larger tree to be x ft/year
so growth rate of smaller tree would come out to be 3x/5
ft/year.

in 4 years, larger tree grows (4).(x) ft. = 4x
and smaller tree grows (4).(3x/5) ft. = 12x/5

total growth is 8 ft which is also the same as 4x + 12x/5
so, x comes out to be 5/4 ft/year
height of smaller tree after 2 years is (2).(3x/5)
= (2).(3/5.5/4) = 1.5ft

Answer / jimesh gajera

3/5 of 4 year is 2.4 year.
tree A has growth rate 2.4 and B has a 4 year.
now, both tree has a 8 feet height means tree A is increase
in 2.4 year is equal to the tree B is increase in 4 year.

next 2 year...

for tree B if it is increase 8 feet in 4 year so in next 2
year 8/4=2 feet in 1 year. means tree B increase 4
feet.total height is 12 feet.

and tree A if it is increase 8 feet in 2.4 year means
approximately in 2 year so it is increase 8 feet another. so
total height is more than 16 feet.

so, height of the smaller tree after 2 year is 12 feet.
