A transformer is a device that transfers electrical energy
from one circuit to another through inductively coupled
conductors—the transformer's coils. A varying current in the
first or primary winding creates a varying magnetic flux in
the transformer's core, and thus a varying magnetic field
through the secondary winding. This varying magnetic field
induces a varying electromotive force (EMF) or "voltage" in
the secondary winding. This effect is called mutual induction.

transformer is a static device which is sed to transfer
energy from one side to (primary to secondary) without
change in frequency. transformer is of two types step up n
step down.
step up transformer is used to increase low voltage to high
voltage n step down transformer decrease from high voltage
to low

A transformer is a Ac static device this known as static because there is no moving parts only energy(Voltage) means is transformed by the electromagnetic induction from primary winding to the secondary winding.
a)Distributed Transformers-which is used to step down the voltage.
b)Power Transformers - Which is used to step up the voltage.
