In a 3 pin plug holder, what is the purpose of diameter of
ground pin is larger than phase and nutral pin

if diameter is more then the resistance will be less.so in
short circuit condition the current will flow through the
low resistance ground pin and will get easily earthed.

Purpose of more diameter: So that the area of contact is
more and resistance offered is less and more current can
flow through it in case of fault without overheating.
Purpose of more length: So that the earth pin makes the
first contact with the supply before any other pin ensuring
safety of the personnel.

when equipment short circuted, high current will flow
through the grount pin.if its small, not possible to flow
through that pin

WHENEVER THE SHORT CIRCUIT TAKES PLACE WE CANT EXPECT HOW
MUCH OF CURRENT FLOWS .
IN CASE OF SHORT CIRCUIT IN ORDER TO PROVIDE THE LOW
RESITNACE PATH TO THE CURRENT THE PIN IS MADE UP OF LARGER
DIAMER .
ALL THE ABOVE COMMENTS GIVEN BY FRIENDS ARE ALSO CORRECT.

When you put pin in plug holder, first grounder pin can
touch, so if any shortckt, man can safe.

in case of earth fault current flows through body which is connected to earthing terminal which carries a current to earth if a person comes in contact with body in this case he will get shock. To reduce the intensity of shocks a minimum current should flow through a body and this is possible only when a max current will flow through earthing. To flow a max current resistance should minimum.resistance is minimum when cross section area will b large.thats why to increase cross section area earth point is larger.

I think the simple answer is found if you look at the
ground pin on plugs from most other parts of the world.
Generally the positioning, size or shape of the ground pin
is different to the phase and neutral. This stops the earth
pin from being accidently put into the hole for one of the
other pins.

Resistance has to be low in order to enable more amount of
current to flow through it.
As the formula suggests, R=ρ*length/area.
hence to have low resistance, length has to be decreased
and area has to be decreased.
Ground pin has to carry the fault currents, which is very
high and thus provide the least resistance path to it.
hence it is larger as compared to phase and neutral.

more diameter, more radius, less area, low resistance, more
earthing
