Hi Friends,
I have over 9 years of experience in IT industry. Worked as
developer on IBM mainrames for most part of my career (6+
years) so far. Currently working in a global IT company.
Couple of years back I got an opportunity in my current
company to change my technology from IBM mainfarmes to SAP
SD. I got trained internally and I have been put on a
project of a global client for support for almost 2 years
now. I learnt lot of things and got very good hands on
experience. Now my questions is,How important/critical is
the industry/domain experience(in my case, sales domian
experience) if I want to pursue opportunities in other
companies. I do not have any sales domain experience but I
do have over 2 years of real time experience on SAP SD
module. What will be the chances of getting jobs in the
market for my kind of profiles? Can I have your
comments/views.

Hi,
Domain experience is very important for functional
consultants purely because its tough to understand the
scenarios unless one has'nt it experienced himself.
Besides, the main function of a consultant is to understand
and map the physical scenarios on the system during
implementation.
Unless one is exceptionally brilliant in SAP and can do
anything and everything in the system that is required
there is a reasonable doubt about the candidate getting
shortlisted in the interview itself.
There are millions of consultants in the market today With
more than two years of experience and good command over
SAP. My friend it will be tough competing with them at the
moment my advise to u would be stick to your company and
gain as much knowledge as possible and try to apply through
referrals in other companies when u feel you are more
competitive.
