if it is induction motor, then its rotor speed should be
greater that the RMF's Speed=Ns.
it should be noted that it will draw reactive component of
power for exciting it self.

Only a Double excited Electrical machine can act as a
Generator. Please note eg. you cannot generate power from a
squirel cage induction motor as it does not have a dual
power source, it can only operate as a motor as the rotor
is short ckted. In all other cases where the stator
(winding) and rotors(armature) are powered seperately, only
then energy can be converted from mechanical to electrical
(generator) or electrical to mechanical (Motor)

motor acts like generator for a short period of time when
it was stopped by removing input supply;this is called
regeneration. This regeneration EMF can be used for motor
braking systems in industries.
