Actually motors are designed at 0.8pf.
50kw load means 50/0.8 kva i.e to 62.5 kva
we know that kvar=kva*sin(angle b/w V & I)
To take Power factor to Unity we need Kvar=62.5*0.6
=37.5 kvar

Before connecting a capacitor bank we have to know for what
purpose we are connecting, if the load having power factor
of 0.8 and if you want to increase the power factor to 0.95,
for that you need to install capacitor bank. The rating of
the capacitor bank can be calculated as follows
Required KVAR rating of capacitor bank = KW(of
load)*(tan(cosinver 0.8)-tan(cosinve0.95)
By this way you will get the kvar rating of capacitor bank.
The capacitor is always connected in parallel to load bus.

I have an existing old MCCB. ABB Model SACE, the rating are: Ue = 660 volts, Iu =1250 Amps, 3 poles, Ith (max) =800 amps at 45 deg C. I need a circuit breaker for my 3 phase motors, 380 volts 60 hz. the supplier required the minimum ampacity of the breaker to be 911 amps. can i use this breaker with rating of Iu =1250 amps but Ith = 800amps maximum?
