in power station power measuring unit is KW but in
transformer is KVA why?

in power station power measuring unit is KW but in transformer is KVA why?..

Answer / dipak patil

the tf cu losses are proportion to current and irone or no-
load losses are propotional to voltage rating of
transformer. Since losses once available it is essy to
calculate transformer efficiency. Hence tf rating is given
in KVA insted of KW

in power station power measuring unit is KW but in transformer is KVA why?..

Answer / engr. sumair mir

p.f=kw/kva .... T/f rating is in kva bcoz ,
1- Power factor of the load is not known.....
2- T/F losses depends upon cu- losses(due to current) and
core losses(due to voltage).
due to these resons t/f ratings are in kva.
while for motors and other machines the rating will be in kw
becoz their p.f is known(ranging from .2 to .8 during light
load and peak load period)...

in power station power measuring unit is KW but in transformer is KVA why?..

Answer / srikanta

generally ratings of electrical machines are depends open losses and power factor.
in case of transformer copper loss depend on current and iron loss on voltage but independent of load power factor, hence it's rating is KVA rather than KW.

in power station power measuring unit is KW but in transformer is KVA why?..

Answer / mahmood al-ali

1- Any transformer includes core losses and copper losses
2- Core losses are based on input voltage
3- Copper losses are based on current flowing through winding
4- Therefor, total losses are based on voltage in addition to current but not power factor.
Thus, the rating of transformer is done in KVA not in KW
