Circuit Breaker is a protection device which can intrupt
the fault current, CB has high fault level with-stand
capacity (kA). Relays are also used in protection circuit
but relays cannot with-stand high fault levels. Relays are
generally used as sensing element to open the circuit
breakers.

relay is used only to sense the fault in the system....

whereas, circuit breaker will trip the circuit as soon as
relay sense the fault and sends the signal to the circuit
breaker.............. the fault is identified and it also
trips the system.

Relay is simply a sensing device which sense the fault condition as per its setting and give information to circuit breaker to break the circuit or take the required action
where as circuit breaker is a protecting device which immediately trip the circuit when a fault condition occur or when it get a faulted signal from relay
