fuse is used for following this reson;- breking the supply
of eqipment at the time of taking more curent raspect
rating curent of eqipment.

When higher current than the rated current of circuit flows then it produces more heat ultimately temparture of fuse wire ( having low melting point )increases which melts/breaks the metal wire Hence it is used for safety of circuit to avoid any damage to circuit component
