LONG CYLINDRICAL NARROW GLASS TUBE CONSIST OF INERT GAS(ARGON)AND ARE COATED WITH PHOSPHORUS AND ELECTRODES ARE PLACED AT BOTH THE ENDS.
ELECTRODES ARE USED TO PRODUCE PREHEAT WHERE ELECTRONS STARTS TO MOVE AND COLLIDE WITH MERCURY(TRACED WITH ARGON GAS)WHICH PRODUCES UV RAY WHICH IS INVISIBLE TO SEE. SO THE PHOSPHOROUS IS USED TO MAKE THE INVISIBLE UV TO VISIBLE.
PRINCIPLE BEHIND IS TO CONVERT ELECTRICAL ENERGY TO LIGHT ENERGY.
