As Leakage current need to flow through the Earth Wire
the resisitance should be as low compared to that of the
phase and neutral wires.Besides,The resistance of the
conductor is inversely proportional to the cross sectional
area of the conductor .Hence bigger cross sectonal area
reduces the resistance and provides a easy path for the
current flow.So the Earth Pin is always bigger than the
other two pins in a 3pin plug.

as we know that R=p*l/a
resistance of the
conductor is inversely proportional to the cross sectional
area of the conductor .Hence bigger cross sectonal area
reduces the resistance and provides a easy path for the
current flow.So the Earth Pin is always bigger than the
other two pins in a 3pin plug.

when a fault occurs a large amount of current is drawn from
earth wire hence more thickness is required to avoid
insulation breakdown

bigger dia of the pin gives larger contact area with socket
clips which is requard to handle falt corrent. heigher
length is to ensure first contact and last brack while
incerting or removing the plug from the socket.the height
diferance is ensured is the socket std by meens of H dim.

when ever we talk about fault current. it always means a heavy current. fault current always needs a path to be grounded. since it is large so it obviously needs conductor having low resistance. since if resistance is high then on passing current through it will produce heat by formula (I^2R). again by seeing formula of resistance
R=P*l/a
increasing the area will reduce the resistance and hence reducing heat energy.
that is why earth wire is kept thick...
