what happen ,if generator will generate leading power
factor?

Answer / soumik
Alternators are physically limited in their ability to both
produce and absorb power. When a leading power
factor load is applied to an alternator at a site, misoperation of the generator, overvoltage, load misoperation,
and alternator damage can occur.

Answer / rahul
if the generator will generate leading power factor, then
the KVA rating goes low which in turn draws reactive
component and the cost of production of electricity also
increases. so it is desirable to generate electricity at
lagging power factor.

It depends on the type of load
if its genteration is highly leading then line reactors are
switched on
under exitation may also drive generator in leading p.f.

As load pf of an alternator become more leading, the value of generated voltage required to give rated terminal voltage become decrease

Answer / kowsar shaik
then it acts like a synchronous capacitor, which generate
reactive power.all the loads we have are of lagging type,
consumes reactive power. voltage regulation may be good if
the pf is with in the limitted range only. if the pf is
incresed upto 0.9 the active power generated may be very
less and it cannot be useful as all the power useful is
active power.

Answer / santosh kawade
In case of leading power factor of generator generator
start receiving reactive power from system and pump active
power in system.
In leading power factor increase above 0.9, active power
generation capacity of generator drastically reduces and it
only generate reactive power.
