In 3 PHASE type of induction motor we need to change only a
phase sequence of incoming supply so its sequence of phase
angle get change(0,120,-120 electrical degree) is
responsible to change electrical field produce by phase
hence direction of induced emf get revers so and so its
rotor rotate in revers direction, in case of single phase
motor diection may change by changing capacitor terminale
which across to supply voltage.

Yes very true, changin a phase, the motor will rotate in
reverse, but one more possibility is that, if a motor has
got single phase and it gets a lil torque in reverse
direction, it will continue to rotate in reverse.
