what is the different between Switch & Circuit Breaker?..

Answer / hero

Circuit Breaker:-
A circuit breaker is an auto & manuly operated
electrical switch by using the contact as a air,
thermosatatic element, vacume for protect an electrical
circuit overload, short circuit & earth fault. Any fault
occured in the circuit the contact automatically opened.

Switch:-
A switch is a manuly operated by using contactor
to open and close the circuit, interrupting the current

what is the different between Switch & Circuit Breaker?..

Answer / thowsif

Circuit Breaker:-
A circuit breaker is an automatically-operated
electrical switch designed to protect an electrical circuit
from damage caused by overload or short circuit. Its basic
function is to detect a fault condition and, by
interrupting continuity, to immediately discontinue
electrical flow.

Switch:-
A switch is an electrical component that can
break an electrical circuit, interrupting the current or
diverting it from one conductor to another

what is the different between Switch & Circuit Breaker?..

Answer / hatem samir

Circuit breaker :
A mechanical switching device capable of making , carring
and breaking currents under normal conditions and abnormal
conditions like short circuit

Switch :
A mechanical switching device capable of making , carring
and breaking currents under normal conditions but not
breaking under abnormal conditions such as short circuit

what is the different between Switch & Circuit Breaker?..

Answer / hammad khan (uwa)

Circuit Breaker have the switching capability of switching on and off any kind of currents that is the load current and short circuit currents and can be operated under load conditions.

Whereas a Disconnection switch can only be operated under no load conditions. Currents of Busbar without load and also no load currents of transformer with low rating can be switched on and off. So interlocking with circuit breaker is necessary.

what is the different between Switch & Circuit Breaker?..

Answer / mashani

a. Circuit Breaker(CB):may operated when load is still
conneted
switch:may operated when load is allready openned
thats why the position of Disconnected switch is before CB
b. Circuit Breaker ussualy opearted with automation
(PLC/Microntroller whichinside of circuit breaker is relay-
relay protection such as over current protection, over
voltage protection, ground fault,etc)
Switc usualy operated manually
c. Circuit breaker:could reduction of surge wich caused by
switching with material inside CB(such as SF6 for HV,
Vacuum for MV, Air for LV)thats why CB may operated when
load is still conneted
Swith:doesn't have any material to reduction the surge,
thats why it's may not operated if there is still load
connected
but switch an CB is have same purpose to connected an
disconnected between load and source....
please correct my answer...thx

CB break the fault current with the help of relay switch is
not breaking any fault current are any current it is manual
operated

what is the different between Switch & Circuit Breaker?..

Answer / firoj

the main difference between a C.B. and a switch is that a
circuit breaker is operated with the help of relays,
electronic circuits....that is why its operation can be
automatic or manual..
on the other hand switch is a manual device
The purpose of the both device is to make or brake a circuit
under faulty condition

what is the different between Switch & Circuit Breaker?..

Answer / sandeep

As i know..
switch disconnect the circuit at abnormal conditions and not
reform the citcuit whereas circuit breaker can connect or
disconnect the circuit at normal and abnormal situations..

How do we measure earth fault current in Generator Transformer(20/420kv),Station Transformer(20/11 kv) and Unit Transformers(20/11kv) for our plant system, since these don't have any Neutral earth Fault relay connected to their Neutral Earth? But for Unit Service transformers(11/.433 Kv) we have an Earth Fault Relay connected to its neutral earth. Why is such so?

1 Answers   NTPC,

Dear Sir, we met a disaster with our 62.5 kva genset, after rewinding we informed by our contract engg that due to return current coming in neutral & impropper earthing this happend. But after all set up & load balance we checked & found again we have about 20 to 32 amp return current on neutral. we have 12 airconditioner + 12 mini fridge on single phase line. Pl suggest any idea to solved this problem

I have a question, I visit 01 site and face a problem, there is 2.5 ton Air Con working, when air con compressor is running at that time rectifier voltages are increasing upto 290-295 v and rectifier is giving main high alarm (rectifier is APC single phase), before starting compressor rectifier voltages was 230v. when air con is going off rectifier voltages are decreasing smoothly at its actual voltages 230v. Load on Genset phases is this: Red-13.5 amp AC (Air Con load), Yellow-1.7 amp AC (BTS lights etc.) and Blew-4 amp AC (telecom system load), Genset phase to phase and neutral to phase voltages are also ok. These are 10 sites having same system and same rectifier APC brand at every site 02 genset are working but the problem is same at all these 10 sites. What will be the reason behind???
