when ur using single phase type of load for a 3.5core power
cable .Why neutral is .5 and how much current in the
neutral if we consider neutral as a reverse path for three
phases.

Answer / elangovan kp
The normal balanced three phase system the neutral current
is zero as the Neutral current is equal to vector sum of
three phase currents(R,Y.B). Even the system is unbalanced
(within the tolerence)also it will not reach more than 50%
percentage of the phase current. Hence it is safe to use
50% of the conductor size as neutral. In fact for three
phase motor 3 core cable is enough to use as the load is
balanced. However in the middle east countries as per IEC
standard it is being used 4 core cable instead of 3.5 core
in India.

Answer / kishan
If the current in all three phases are equal, the current in
the neutral is zero, hence the neutral conductor is half the
size of Phase cable.
