how to calculate the powerfactor in induction motor having
name plate details? for example 1 h.p motor 1.86 A 415 V
Answers were Sorted based on User's Feedback
We know P=VICOSф.
Here, P=1H.P=746W,V=415v,I=1.85amp
Now putting this value on the equation simply we get the PF.
746=415*1.85*COSф
746
=>COSф=----------=0.9716 and it must be lagging.
415*1.85

Dear Zakir husan
What is 1092 in your equation .
That we know that
p=root3 v*i*cos phi
1 h.p =746 watts = 1.732*415*1.86*cos phi
cos phi= 746/1.732*415*1.86
= 0.55 and pf leging.

here P=1H.P=746w,
I=1.86,
V=415V
FORMULA P=1.732*V*I*COS phi
cos phi=746/1.732*415*1.86
cos phi=0.55

Dear Satish
The power factor dependent on the loading factor of the
induction motor , You can measure the Line current and apply
the formula suggested by Zakir or you can refer the
characteristics charts of Motor to find out the Power Factor.

Please mention whether the motor is single phase or three
phase?
apply for single phase>>
P=VIcosØ
and Apply for three phase>>
P=√3VIcosØ
