Why only Water & Sodium Tatrate Is Use For THe Calibration Of Karl Fischer Titrator?..

Answer / k.shashidar reddy

1) As we are measuring the water content in a compound and
it is 100% pure so we can use water to calibrate KFR.
2) DST is the only substance with 100% purity which can
dissolve in Methanol without changing its charactarestic of
15.66 water.

Why only Water & Sodium Tatrate Is Use For THe Calibration Of Karl Fischer Titrator?..

Answer / vinay dagar

KF Reagent equivalence Factor always be calculated with water on daily basis which is the write procedure because we know that water we are using is 100% pure.

Now DST used to standardize the instrument functioning, therefore to establish the facts like instruments sensitivity, Electrode response etc. can be established through titrating DST a primary standard. In such a way we can establish the instrument is in correct working conditions.

If there is difference in the value of water content in DST means instrument functioning is doubtful & need proper CAPA.

Di sodium tartrate di hydrate is having 15.66% and in the
process of di sodium tartrate di hydrate only water is used
as solvent(Other solvents are not used). then it contains
only water as moisture content.
