Answer / venniraisundar

divide the 8 balls into 2 sets such that each set contains 4
balls. Weigh both the sets. Now the set which weighs less is
again divides into 2 sets such that each set will contain 2
balls. Now weigh these 2 sets and again the set which weighs
less will be divided into 2 sets with one 1 ball each. Now if
you weigh you can find out the ball which weighs less than
the rest.

Answer / muhammad akram

hi i m ch akram from kabirwala,,,,,,,,,,

total balls=8
separate 2 balls from them
put 3 balls from remaining 6 in one side of scale and 3 in
other side. now there r two possibilites
1- that both sides equal
2- not equal
if both sides r equal then put the initially separated 2
balls in two sides of scale that we find the less weight
ball
if both sides r not equal then take the 3 balls of less
weight AND separate one ball from these 3 balls and put
remaining 2 balls in two sides of scale, if agan the scale
is equal then the 3rd separated ball in of less weight, and
if the scale is not equal u will find the less weight ball
directly

Answer / parth

i think in case of odd ....

make 3 sets for eg - if there are 9 balls ,make three sets
of 4 ,4 and 1 balls.

now weigh the sets having 4 balls(i.e.1st and 2nd),if weigh
comes equal then the least weight ball is the ball of 3rd set.

if weigh are not equal then we"ll come to knoe that the 3rd
set ball is not the least 1,thus now we are left with 8
balls, now the set which weigh less divide it into 2 parts
,further weigh them ,now we left with 2 balls, finally weight
them will get the least weigh ball

Answer / venniraisundar

Incase of odd number of balls...........

Tk for ex there r 7 balls and of that one ball is of less
weight, Now weigh the 1st 3 balls and note down the weight,
weigh the 3rd, 4th and 5th ball and again note down the
weight then weigh 5th 6th and the 7th ball and note down its
weight. Since only one ball is of less weight , Of the three
sets weighed the set wit less weight will contain that ball.
Now tk tht particular set and repeat the same
procedure,weigh the 1st 2 balls then the 2nd and 3rd
ball, again of the 2 sets one with least weight will contain
the ball with least weight. Tk that particular set and weigh
the 2 balls. U vl identify the ball with least weight.

One more answer is that since they have not specified the
number of trails for weighing the balls, U can weigh every
ball seperately and also identify the ball with least weight.

Answer / ganesh karki

Hi friends this is ganesh karki from Uttarakhand!!!!!!
I am giving you the right answer with right question.

Actually Question is this->

There are 8 balls that look identical. One of them weighs
less than the others. Given a weighing scale, how will you
find this ball with minimum no of weighing.

total balls = 8
divided 8 balls into 3 parts
1st part having 3 balls
2nd part having 3 balls
3rd part having 2 balls
now we know 7 balls are identical and 1 ball is diffrent in weight.
so step 1 -> take 2nd parts(3 balls) on one side of scale and 3rd parts(3 balls) on other side of scale.
(i)if both are same then left the 6 ball from the list.then go to step 2(ii).
(ii) if both parts are diffrent then take the minimum weight parts.then go to step 2(i).

step 2 -> (i)take 1 ball on one side of scale and 1 ball on other side of scale and 1 ball in hand.
(a) if both are diffrent then take the less weight ball. left the othe 2 ball from list.
(b)if both are same then the ball which is in hand is the minimum weighted ball.
(ii) take 3rd part having 2 balls weight and find the minimum weighted ball.

So there are only 2 number of weighing step.
NOTE: weight sequence are 1st part and 2nd part then 3rd part.
All are satisfy with my answer plz give me ur reply.

thanks
