In this expansion valve, at the discharge of evaporator,
the state of refregerant is in gasious state. Expansion
valve is provided at the inlet line of evaporator.
Depending upon the state of the evaporator outlet, the
expansion valve will allow the quantity of the refrigerant
or flow of the refrigerant.
ex: evaporator outlet refr. is in vapour state. that
vapour will enter into the top portion of the diaphragm.
so as pressure increases on the diaphragm, the diaphragm
will down the valve. then refr. enters into the inlet line.
when this pressure on the diaphragm increases?
whenever there is a load in the evaporator is higher than
refr. flow.
so we have to supply more refr. corrponding to that
evaporator load. so we have to supply more refr. for this
purpose we are providing an mechanical auto valve i.e.
expansion valve.
another point we have to consider is, the property of the
refrigerant. it can easily cooled and easily boiled.

Expansion valve is nothing but the Throttling valve.
Refrigerant in the condenser is at high pressure and is in
the liquid state. So, Throttling valves are used to reduce
the high pressure fluid before entering into the evaporator
in order to cool the environment.
Answer: High pressure fluid from the condenser has to be
reduced before entering into the evaporator so that flash
evaporation can take place at a desired temperature.

THE NAME "EXPANSION VALVE" TELLS IT ALL. WHEN LOOKING @ A
TYPICAL SYSTEM THE EXPANSION VALVE IS USED TO MAINTAIN A
CONSTANT SUPERHEAT. (A CAPPILLARY TUBE EXPANSION DEVICE
PROVIDES CONSTANT FLOW). AS LIQUID (HIGH PRESSURE,HIGH
TEMPERATURE,SUBCOOLED) REFRIGERANT FLOWS INTO THE EXPANSION
VALVE, IT FLOWS THRU A METERING ORIFICE AND IS ALLOWED TO
EXPAND INTO THE EVAPORATOR. THE REFRIGERANT THEN ABSORBS
THE LATENT HEAT OF EVAPORATION (HENCE EVAPORATOR). THE
FLOW IS REGULATED IN ACCORDANCE WITH SETTINGS & LOAD
CONDITIONS.

Expansion valve is the device install before Evaporator in let to maintain constant degree of super heat. The mass flow rate through this valve depends upon the pressure difference between condenser and Evaporator. Expansion valve is used to maintain liquid flow in Evaporator in such way that flow rate will match the amount of liquid being boiled off in the Evaporator.

Expansion vales main function is reduce the pressure of
liquid refrigerant from condensor ,that refrigerant goes to
the expansion valve inlet ( small dia)and it has come out
from out let (big dia)that refrigerant will become low
pressure because it has come from small dia to big dia then
pressure will reduce pressure reduce mean temprature will
reduc after that it will vapourise .

Expansion valve is used to decrease the pressure and temperature of the liquid by expanding its area which means area increases, pressure and temperature of the liquid decreases. By using this valve, we can do the above process.
