what is differnt between metering CTs an protection CTs..

Answer / kaarthikrt&c

Metering cts used only in measuring secondary currents(in
view of primary current),no knee point voltage ,winding
resistance is low.
Protection cts r used incase of any faults in d system, knee
point voltage is there, winding resis. is high.

what is differnt between metering CTs an protection CTs..

Answer / ullas

metering ct= this belongs to accuracy class .1, 1 etc.
and used to measure current, can be indicated in ammeter
and also can be given to an energy meter to measure kwh.
the cts belong to this class is not used for back up
protection or main protection .
protection cts== this cts can be divided in to backup
protection cts and main protection cts.
backup protection cta belongs to calss 5p10, 10p10, 15p10
etc. these ct are used to give over current and earth fault
protection.
special protection cts= this is used for differetial, ref
protections.class ps
oe main thing you should understand is that these are
coming as different cores of a single ct.
that means a ct with 3 or 4 cores.
each core is meant for different purposes like metering,
backup, special (main) protecton.
i think u ca understand better now.
