One common misconception about pumps is the thought that
they create pressure. Pumps alone do not create pressure;
they only displace fluid, causing a flow. Adding resistance
to flow causes pressure

pump is a device used to transffer the fluid from one place
to another place it means it develops flow not pressure but
when we offered some resistance in flow path of fluid so it
will give you the both flow & pressure. when we offered the
resistance that time the kinetic energy of fluid is
converted into pressure energy. so you can say pump
develops both pressure and flow.

A pump is a device used to move fluids, such as liquids or
slurries, or gases. A pump displaces a volume by physical
or mechanical action. One common misconception about pumps
is the thought that they create pressure. Pumps alone do
not create pressure; they only displace fluid, causing a
flow. Adding resistance to flow causes pressure

Pump basically a mechanical device which converts one from
of energy to the other.
As epr burnauli's theorem 'Kinetic Energy + Pressure
Energy + Potemtial Energy = Constant'
Mechanical energy by rotation of impeller is converted
to 'Constant' energy. for the flow of fluid.
Depending upon the physical conditions through which the
fluid has to flow, the energy in the fluid changes from one
type to the other to maintain energy constant.
For example imagine the pipe with following sections
i i i i
i i i i
------- ------- --------- Out
IN i-----------------
---------i
So the flow in = flow out irrespective of time factor.

pump is devlop first flow and if in flow there is any
resistance or orifince or any valve than it is generated
pressure otherwise it is generate only flow. But one thing
is there if your pump has no more delivery capacity of good
flow than no create verry good pressure in line or
system.so it is create first flow and than after system
design creat pressure.

if the discharge pipe of the pump is open to atmosphere,
then there is a high flow and less pressure.
if there is any valve at discharge and u r throtling that
disch. valve, then pressure increases.
so finally pump can develop the flow with some pressure.

Answer / rakesh jaiswal
pump doesnot devlop pressure it just provides a flow,
pressure is just an indication of the resistance offered to
the flow.
pressure develops flow
