synchronous machines have capability to work on different
power factor(or say different imaginary power levels) by
varying the field emf.

However not only synchronous generators are used for
production of electricity. In case of wind power, induction
generator are used and for controlling the imaginary power
capacitor banks are used.

syncronous machine provide good stability it prvoids
synchronous speed.for any sudden change of load the load
angle does not change.
