What is power factor? Whether it should be high or low ?
why?

Answer / victorvgp
Power factor = cos(phi)
where,
phi - is the phase angle between system voltage and current.
The value of cos (phi) lies between 0 and 1
It should be maintain high, because the lower the power
factor higher the transmission losses
hence, as per the tariff we should pay penalty for lower
power factor.
In order to avoid penalty, we should maintain p.f above 0.9
r u got it.

power=VI cosX
=> I= power/(V CosX)
for low values of P.F. the current increases leading to
more copper losses (I*I*R) and hence heating. more losses
lead to low effeciency of the system as whole which is not
desirable.

P.F.is the ratio of KWH & KVAH metering
i.e. - KWH/KVAH
It should be higher.Ideal P.F.is 90% or more

Power factor means cosine angle between vtg & current.It also derive from Active power/apprant power(i.e.KW/KVA )
In electric power system, power factor should be more (i.e.nearly one).low power factor have more current compare to actual current.Actually Inductive load like Induction motor have a Lagging power factor which help the decreasing the power factor.Also electricity board take the penalty for low power factor.

Answer / adarsh
power factor means the ratio of real power flowing the load.
to the apparent power in the circuir,it should be high (1)
because high power factor provides good efficiency and
mostly in industries where mostly induction motors are used.
please provide me more information regarding because i have
just completed ITC

power factor is cosine of the angle between V and i i.e.,
cos (phi), where phi is the angle between V an I.
power factor dends upon the circuit, weather it is
inductive,capacitive or resitive. if it is inductive p.f is
lagging i.e., i lags v.if its is capacitive, p.f. is
leading,i.e., i leads v,for resitive, v and i are in phase
with each other.

power factor is the cosine angle betweem voltage &
current,In my view current charges inductor coil during
induction through reactive power,so we provide capacitive
power to maintain power factor ,during this process voltage
charges capacitor so current again lead voltage and we got
good power factor .
P=VICOS (PI),WHERE VOLTAGE &POWER IS CONSTT.
IT MEANS CURRNT IS DIRECTLY RELATED TO COS(PHI)
IT MAEANS IF COS PI DEC. ,THEN CURRENT WILL INCREASE
THAT IS HARMFULL FOR OUR GEN WDG
