why you create universe and creating reports based on that?
why dont we go for crystel reports and generate reports
directly?tell me the advantages?please answer to this question.

The biggest difference is that Crystal reports are used
for "canned" reporting while BO is used for adhoc
reporting.

Here you go.
The main purpose of the universe is, it acts as an
interface between database and BO. So a non technical guy
can also create a report using the universe by drag/drop
the objects.
Once the universe had built, you no need to again create
queries in Crystal reports also, you can simply use the
universe as source, it will save time.
If the universe is not satisfying your report requirements
then you need to go for other sources.

The main reason behind this is > REQUIREMENT OF REPORTS
POST COMPLETEION OF REPORT DEVELOPMENT PROJECT.
If business needs only a few reports based on their
requirement, and they don’t have any requirement of reports
post project. They can opt for crystal reports.
But if business is in need of future reports also, universe
comes into play. Where you have user friendly objects. All
you need is just to drag and drop them to create new report

Main difference is ROLAP (Relational OLAP) supported by BO
and not by Crystal Reports. ROLAP meaning is you can try to
generate the universe using SQL's from several data sources
(whatever you call like SQL Server,ORACLE etc;).In Crystal
Reports if you try to add more that one datasource that's
it!! the verify database option will be disabled(which
means it does not support)

Crystal Reports can not be edited by Users like we can edit
webi reports as par user requirement.
Crystal reports are created where there is no further
report development requirement. That means after completion
of a report development project , if a new report to be
developed one must have to have knowledge of data base/SQL.
Where as after creating universe we can make as many
reports we want after a small training session.
Crystal Reports can not be used to analyze the data using
drill down feature.
Crystal reports does not have feature of taking SNAPSHOT of
data after drill down on a particular dimension.
Crystal Reports can’t have more than one report in it. Like
in BO reports we can insert a report just like adding
worksheets in Excel workbook.
But still crystal reports have greater flexibility in terms
of Report Format, data exporting, Formulas, Section Expert,
Paging Formulas, Group Expert, Record Selection Expert,
Group Selection Expert etc……….

actually source of the crystal report is Businessview. so u
must create universe. then after based on the Businessview u
generate the reports. otherwise to generate reports is not
possible by using crystal report suite. u want ro generate
the reports without the unverse to take personal
datafiles.crystal report separate installation is there.
TXT,PDF,.. type of reports work in Crystal reports separate
installation.

What is Custom Sorting? In development environment we had applied custom Order on Month which is having the following list of values September,October,March,August and December only.But in Production environment Month is having all LiSt of Values like 12 MOnths(Jan to Dec).So ,How it will effect the Sorting in production environmentof universe and as well as in reporting?????
