or auto? note that there is no tag. you are given only a
multimeter.

In auto transformer there will be continuity between in
coming supply and out going supply side whereas there is no
continuity between incoming and outgoing incase of double
wound transformer.

EXACTLY AS IN CASE OF AUTOTRANSFORMER SOME PART OF THE
PRIMARY WINDING IS MADE AS SECONDARY WINDING ...THERE IS NO
ELECTRICAL ISOLATION AS IN CASE OF TWO WINDING HERE

Answer / matthew
On an autotransformer there is a physical connection
between the primary and secondary and the voltage variation
is not much so the resistence steps are less. The opposite
is true for double wound transformer.

WEll in an autotransformer the primary and secondary windings are electrically connected. So if an open circuit takes place across the secondary winding, the primary voltage shows in the secondary winding. (test it for yourself)
While in a double wound transformer, the primary and secondary windings are not electrically connected, so if an open circuit across the secondary winding occurs, the secondary winding will not be affected.
I hope i have helped.
