ELR Earth Leakage Relays along with CBCT are used to detect
leakage current in the earhing. If the earthing is not
proper a small amount of current will appear (in the order
of mA). ELR will continuously monitor the leakage current
if it exceeds the set threshold an output electromechanical
relay (which is inside the ELR) will operate. The output
relay contact can be connected to circuite breakers /
contactor to isolate power supply or alarms.
CBCT Core Balance Current Transformers these will come in
different sizes. the core material will be either nickel or
alloy of nickel, copper wire will be wounded on the core
and properly insulated. The 3-phase line along with neutral
are passed in this core and secondary is connected to ELR.
Idealy the leakage current should be zero if any earth
leakage happen the leakage current will appear at CBCT
secondary it will be detected by ELR.

I agree with you. But exactly is the functionality of CBCT as compared to ELR, since ELR will be used to detect the leakage currents.

CBCT is used for current leakage purpose via earth. If any
leakage current goes to any equipments (For example:Busduct)
it will be by pass that the leakage current to earth. So it
will act some relay. This is the CBCT purpose. This is not a
signal purpose this is protection purpose of any equipments.

i have 400/230v transformer and didnt done the neutral eatrhing. i connected one lamp to one phase and neutral to the earth. but the lamp is not glowing. again i connected neutral to earth and repeated the same. then the lamp is glowing. in the first condition i tested with a line tester also, at that time the tesrer is glowing what is happening i dont know can any one help me?
