how bridge design is to be start? what is the preliminary step for design? which code of practice..

Answer / rajkumar

Hi friend,
Designing of bridges goes in following steps:
1) selecting suitable location after sufficient geographic
survey, hydrological survey, geological survey,etc.
2) after selecting the location you have to decide what
type of bride will be suited for ex. steel or arch or RCC
or prestressed, etc. depending upon length of bridge,
geological conditions, purpose etc.
3) once the type is decided then comes the part of load
considerations as under:
* DL, LL, Wind induced Loads, Earthquake induced loads,
hydraulic forces, centrifugal forces if any, upthrust,
stresses due to thermal changes etc etc...
* for this some IRC Specifications are to be followed.
4) after load calculations and various load combinations
the individual members are to be designed.

I hope this answers your question....
