This is not so much of an answer as it is a comment. The
above two answers are obviously EXTREMELY out of date, and
therefore wrong, in the context of Ethernet networking in
2009. It is too bad that answers on this site do not have
time stamps of some sort!

Advantages:Ether net is most cost efective solution because
in this ethernet we wont user HUBs and Switchs we will use
only T type connecters and N type Connecters ,terminaters
and we can use more than 100 mtrs and easy to install and
maintance
Disadvantage: If one System fail total network is down and
if we want do any problem solving in systems or in network
we have to shutdown the total network
