stress depends upon the arrangement of atoms and the properties of the materials.
pressure is applied and stress is induced,
| Is This Answer Correct ? | 0 Yes | 0 No |
Answer / abhijith
Pressure is External force on a unit area whereas stress is internal force applied by material against deformation (when a load is applied on it) on a unit area.
Pressure is always compressive whereas stress may be tensile, compressive or shear.

Answer / chandramohan(annamalai univers
stress= load/area
pressure=force per unit area
torque= twisting force
moment=i dont know
| Is This Answer Correct ? | 1 Yes | 2 No |
Answer / thiruvenkata babuji
for defining a stress a plane vector(tensor) is required
ie stress is vector quantity
but
pressure is a scalar quantity ie which will be always
perpendicular to the surface area.

ya exactly but..........
when a force acting on a body, a force creates a resistance
inner force inside body
that apposes the force applied on it ,This is called stress.
where as the force acting on the body is
called pressure,
| Is This Answer Correct ? | 0 Yes | 1 No |
Answer / muhammad asif
in solids when an external force is applied this force
tend to couse deformation in that body at that time
internal force is develop to resist this deformation in the
solid this resisting force develop over unit area is called
stress.
while the force applied on unit area is the pressure.
PRESSURE IS APPLIED FORCE ON UNIT AREA.
WHILE STRESS IS NOT APPLIED FORCE IT IS THE INTERNAL
RISISTING FORCE DEVELOPED ON UNIT AREA.

Answer / ravi kumar singh
the resistance force applied against deformation ,is called stress.whenever pressure is applied force /unit area.
STRESS=RESISTANCE FORCE/CROSS-SECTIONAL AREA
PRESSURE=FORCE/AREA

Answer / guest
difference between stress and pressure
stress=resistive force/area.
pressure=force/area.
stress is nothing but load/area and pressure is the force
acting in any one direction
| Is This Answer Correct ? | 2 Yes | 6 No |
Answer / manoj
stress....internal resistive force/ area.......
pressure external force/area....
moment....due to bending....like a horizontal shaft being
acted upon by a vertical force.....force *distance(where the
shaft is been supported like in cantilever case)
torque....a force* distance....this distance is b/w the
force acing line and the axis of the shaft....
