Metering PT used for measuring purpose and it is design to operate on knee point of flux v/s I curve..
Metering PT has less volume of core...

While protecting PT is used for protection purpose and it is design to operate on ankle point of flux v/s I curve.
Protecting PT has more volume of core..

Metering PT s are more accurate ( 1, 0.5 ,0.2 )for 80% t0 120% of rated voltage .
