Let's Consider a 12mm diameter steel
By conventional method we have 12^2/162= 0.888889~0.889 Kg/m
Then lets consider the volume of 1m length of steel
Volume= 3.14 x r^2 x l
Where r= radius of steel (12/2=6mm or 6/1000=0.006)
l=length of steel considered (1m in this case)
(NB:- Pi= 3.14)
So Volume= 3.14x 0.006^2 x 1 =0.00011304 m^3.
Unit wt= Volume x Density
Density of steel= 7850 Kg/m^3
So, Unit wt= 0.00011304 x 7850 =0.8889 Kg

Answer / civil
Density=mass/volume
Density of steel=7850kg/m^3
So,
7850=mass/{(π/4)*(d^2}*1000000*length}. d is in mm
Mass/length= 10^6 / (7850*(π/4))*d^2
Therefore mass/length = d^2/162
Dia(d) is in mm and mass in kg/m
