How do you connect the capacitors on polyphase circuits?

Answer / joseph
You can connect Single Phase capacitors to individual
phases. Alternatively you can use three phase capacitor
unit directly. Another option is to use Single phase
capacitors rated for 415 or 440V, make a delta connection,
and connect in three phase.

Commonly in industries there are used mostly three phase load like motors. transformers e.t.c utilized 3 phase static capacitors which internally made star or delta connection

In three phase load the capacitor bank is connected for improving the power factor (P F). The rating (KVA and V) of the bank can be calculated depending on the existing system voltage and up to which P F we intend to improve. The ideal location of this Capacitor Bank is near to the load. For large size motor / load separate circuit breakers are to be used for switching the said Capacitor Bank. The motor and the bank are to be closed / opened simultaneously. Some times Capacitor Banks are connected with the Motor Control Center (MCC) or Power Control Center (PCC) for improving the P F of the system. The voltage rating shall be 10% higher than the system voltage.

star or delta connected bank interfaced between three
phases.
Is This Answer Correct ? | 5 Yes | 3 No |
In low voltage system we put capacitor bank in parallel to the PCC (POWER CONTROL CENTER) in that bank capacitors having delta connection. On HT bus series capacitor bank is used.Induction motor having long cable distance we use capacitor bank in delta connection. In large high voltage motor having large rating use capacitors bank along with reactor.

A delta-connected bank of capacitors is usually applied to voltage classes of 2400 volts or less. In a three-phase system, to supply the same reactive power, the star connection requires a capacitor with a capacitance three times higher than the delta connected capacitor.
Capacitors shall be connected near to the load. Some times Capacitor Banks are connected with the Motor Control Center (MCC) or Power Control Center (PCC) for improving the P F of the system. The voltage rating shall be 10% higher than the system voltage.

Can u explain : what is supply for train (whether a,c or d.c ).I know that supply is 25000v a.c .But there is rumour that supply is D.C. And also explain how lights and fans inside the trains are working ,and what type of motors are used in trains whether D.C motors or induction motors .If d.c motor, how it gets supply. If traction motors are used then what are traction motors and its functions and how it differs from other motors and also explain about locomotive . please reply..............
