WHAT IS MEAN BY MAGNETIC LOCKING..

Answer / manoj kmr

synchronous motor works on the principle of magnetic locking. when two
unlike poles are brought near each other if the magnets are strong there
release a force of attraction b/w those two poles in that condition magne
ts are said to be magnetic locking .
if one of the two magnets is rotated the other one also rotate with same
direction and speed due to force of attraction

WHAT IS MEAN BY MAGNETIC LOCKING..

Answer / devsingh boda

A synchronous motor always runs at synchronous speed, because
of MAGNETIC LOCKING phenomenon.
In syn motors the armature poles(rotor poles) are
physically designed(located) on the rotor as we see in
salient pole syn machines. But whenever ac supply is given to
the stator winding windings , a rotating magnetic field Or
rotating magnetic poles (stator field or stator poles) are
created itself which rotates at syn speed.Any particular
stator pole attracts the rotor pole which in sign
opposition ie, stator N attracts rotor S and stator S
attracts rotor N.As a particular stator pole moves at syn
speed , the rotor pole that is attracted by that particular
stator poles also move at syn speed. This phenomenon is
called magnetic locking.Because of this magnetic locking the
rotor always rotates at syn speed...
