: In syn motors the armature poles(rotor poles) are
physically designed(located) on the rotor as we see in
salient pole syn machines.But whenever ac supply is given to
the stator winding windings , a rotating magnetic field Or
rotating magnetic poles (stator field or stator poles) are
created itself which rotates at syn speed.Any particular
stator pole attracts the rotor pole which in sign
opposition ie, stator N attracts rotor S and stator S
attracts rotor N.As a particular stator pole moves at syn
speed , the rotor pole that is attracted by that particular
stator poles also move at syn speed.This phenomenon is
called magnetic locking.Because of this magnetic locking the
rotor always rotates at syn speed...
