why transformer calling in VA rating

Answer / murali290
For any device the rating is given based on the losses occur
in it (loss is nothing but heat). In transformer 2 types of
losses occur 1.core losses: which depends on V &
2.cu losses: which depends on I only
but no losses depends on p.f.
therefore trasformer rating proportional to VI or VA
for large transformers the rating in kilo or mega ,hence
KVA or MVA

Transformer has copper loss & iron loss. copper loss occur
in windings & it is due to emf.Iron loss occur in core due
to current. so in order to measure the both losses,
transformer ratings are in VA rating.

Answer / rakesh maharjan
The KW rating is dependent on the power factor and power factor can be different depending the condition where as mostly 0.8, but if KVA rating is given we can calculate the KW rating as per our condition. So KVA rating is fixed and reliable to any malfunciton not to occur. so the transformer rating is given in KVA.
