soil classification should be necessary because through
that only we can caculate the SBC of soil to desing the
structure

Answer / smarika
Classification of soils is necessary since through it an
approximate, but fairly accurate, idea of the average properties of a soil group or a soil type is
obtainable, which is of great convenience in any routine type of soil engineering project.

Soil classification is observed to know the soil bearing capacity (SBC) of soil.
SBC is varies due to different types of soil..
There are 3 types of soil I.e..
1-coarse grained soil
2-fine grained soil

Soils are mainly classified into 3 types
1. Coarse grained soils - are soils which composed of gravel
and or sands and which contain a wide variety of particles.
These are most suitable for foundations when well drained
and well confined. They are soils with good bearing value.
2. Fine Grained soils - are soils that are Silts and
Clays,Contain smaller particles of silt and clay. These are
suitable for foundations but require compactions
3. Organic soils - are the soils consisting of mainly
organic matter like humus, peat, etc... These are not
suitable for foundations.
