SYNCRONOUS MOTOR AT NOLOAD CONDITION IT BEHAVES LIKE A
CAPACITOR
AT OVER LOAD CONDITION IT BEHAVES LIKE A INDUCTOR
AT NORMAL OPERATING CONDITION,IT BEHAVES LIKE A RESISTOR
THAT IS AT NORMAL CONDITION IT OPERATES IN UNITY POWERFACTOR

Answer / ilayaprabha
when the synchronous motor is run in normal condition , it will act as a inductor. it draws the lagging current from the supply.
when the synchronous motor is run under over excitation, it will act as capacitor that means it draws the leading current from the supply.
this is the key to improve the power factor.
