Why do we need ring main unit (RMU). what is its purpose and its advantages . what is the operating function of rmu
Answers were Sorted based on User's Feedback
Usually a RMU is used to allow a feed of supply from 2
directions and tapping of to a transformer, etc.
Each of these supplies may have a number of RMU's in series
forming a ring. If a section of the feeder needs to be
isolated due to work or failure an RMU on each end of this
section can be opened without stopping any supply.

need of RMU is to provide the uninteruptted power supply .
purpose of rmu is to make a ring of power supply network so that supply can be feed from 2nd source on failure of 1st source of power supply .
operating function of RMU (RING MAIN UNIT ) switchgear are closing , opening and to do earth to the ckt. .the funtion of rmu are very easily to operate . it consist mechanically interlocking and sealed tank containing sf6 gas . and provide very good factor of safety .
