Earthing is grounding of any equipment i.e. connecting the body of any equipment to the earthing met or mash or to the earth pit. whenever there occurs any fault between the body and the circuit, faulted current flows to the ground through earthing. So earthing is mainly used for protection of the equipment as well as human being.
Where as
Neutral is the returning path of current which completes the circuit. if we connect an equipment to the phase only but keep the other end open without connecting the neutral then circuit is not complete. so equipment doesn't function. Once we connect with the neutral circuit is completed and hence equipment functions.
