BHP is an abbreviated form of Brake Horse Power.
It is basically the power obtained on the crankshaft.
Through brake test (using load) BHP can be measured.

BHP stands for Brake Horse Power, which is a measure of the
power produced by an engine. It is called brake horse power
because it brakes the acceleration of the output shaft.
Power required to stop acceleration of wheel is the power
produced by engine, since T=I*alpha; T-torque produced by
engine, Alpha, angular acceleration of engine, I- Moment of
Inertia of wheel(which is forced to rotate without
acceleration) and Power = T*omega; omega-angular velocity of
wheel.Itis measured using a brake dynamometer. BHP= IP +
FHP; IP- Indicated Power of engine; FHP- Frictional Horse
Power of engine.

BHP stands 4 Brake Horse Power. It comprises of the Indicated
power(IP) i.e, power obtained from the engine and the
Frictional Horse Power(FHP) due to frictional losses on the
shaft.. Basically the power obtained due to the rotation of
crankshaft..
It is measured by using a brake dynamometer along with a
load...
