because they have high wavelength as compare to other ones.... because as we know that light coming from the sun light i.e., VIBGYOR order of its wave length and the medium it can travel.

colour light).that's why it is used in the street.

I think,the lumens per watt is higher in sodium lamp.
(i.e. luminous efficiency of sodium vapour lamp may be
