Providing insulation to over head transmission line
would be beneficial, as it may provide more safety, and
comparatively the insulators used may be of small capacity
as required when uninsulated wire are used.
But the disadvantage would be that the it is not cost
effective as the transmission line is of large length and a
large amount of money will be required to insulate it and
also maintainance cost increases as the insulation may
deteriorate after a specific period of time.
And the complexity of sag calculation increases and
pole loading capacity required will also be high

i think that insulating overhead lines without the help of
insulators would prove to b quite less advantageous.as we
see that an insulator provides a manifold add onn to the
ovrhead line like providing support to the conductors.also
if we provide o/h conductors with insulating coatings, the
effective weight would be increased resulting in a greater
sag and more aeoline viberations and galloping....
please post the most ralavent answer of yours for this

In my opinion insulating the entire length of OH conductor will be a disadvantage.
In normal bare wire construction heat is easily dissipated to surrounding atmosphere. When fully insulated heat transfer reduces. This necessitates increase in conductor for the same power transfer. The thickness of insulation required will be much more considering the supporting point on towers. So the conductor weight increases requiring more heavy tower structures. Also it creates more sagging problems in summer seasons.
Also I do not think it will increase the safety much because, if broken down, it will certainly create safety threat and severity does not reduces much.
